Brazil Launches World's First XRP ETF – How Hashdex and Ripple Are Changing the Crypto Game

·

Staying ahead of the curve isn't always easy, but some companies make it their signature move. This week, Brazilian firm Hashdex reaffirmed its pioneering role in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) while positioning Brazil at the forefront of the global cryptocurrency market.

The Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM) approved the world's first spot XRP ETF. Named the Hashdex Nasdaq XRP Index Fund, it will be managed by Genial Investimentos and is currently in its pre-operational phase — where managers and distributors attract investors to form initial capital.

Why XRP Stands Out

XRP, the third-largest cryptocurrency by market cap ($150.6 billion), transcends being just a digital asset. It’s the official token for cross-border payments by Ripple, a U.S.-based company developing blockchain-powered financial solutions.

The ETF approval arrives during a pivotal market moment. While Bitcoin (BTC) rose modestly (2.47%) and Solana (SOL) dipped 9.29%, XRP surged 11.20% over seven days (CoinMarketCap data).

"XRP is a natural ETF choice due to its real-world utility, growing institutional demand, and substantial market cap," says Silvio Pegado, Ripple’s Latin America director. "Brazil’s approval reflects its visionary stance on crypto markets."

Ripple’s investments in Brazil continue to expand. Recently, Braza Group launched the BBRL stablecoin on XRP Ledger, Ripple’s decentralized blockchain.

Global Expansion on the Horizon

Analysts anticipate more XRP ETF approvals worldwide in 2025. In the U.S., Grayscale and Bitwise Asset await SEC decisions by October 2025, with approval odds estimated at 65–81%. Under Donald Trump’s SEC leadership, Ripple may resolve regulatory disputes favorably, boosting XRP’s ecosystem.

Hashdex’s Track Record of Innovation

Founded in Rio de Janeiro (2018), Hashdex pioneered one of the first crypto ETFs in 2021. Its 2024 funds rank among Latin America’s top performers. Beyond the XRP ETF, Hashdex unveiled the FOMO11 ETF, launching April 2 on B3.
